MILWOOD 2

MILWOOD AVENUE, VENICE. CA

This ground up construction is situated on a substantially flat, trapezoidal, double lot. The primary objective of the site planning was to create a home that felt well connected to the outdoors, utilizing the depth of the property to make a continuous yard along the length of the home. The geometry of the site was used as a design queue which set forth an intriguing shift for the lower massing of the sunken living area on the first floor.

The architecture is programmed around a series of heavy walls which feel as though they are fractured, and shifting through the space. Working slight elevation changes into the site planning allows the spaces between the shifting walls to become individualized zones, creating the illusion of a larger site through shifting scale and intimacy. The home is clad in textured stucco, board formed concrete and masonry walls with heavily applied ‘over mortar’, which are complimented by recessed mahogany windows and doors clad in.
